Servo motors are widely used in industrial manufacturing equipment. They are powered by servo drives that modulate the voltage and current applied to the motor. This enables the motor speed and positioning to be precisely controlled. A suitably rated AC-DC output power supply provides the energy to the servo drive.

Developing a new servo drive capable of operating from a three-phase input voltage, designers contacted TDK-Lambda for a solution. A 3000W AC-DC power supply was needed, capable of operating from a Delta or Wye configuration with nominal 400, 440 or 480 Vac inputs.

The TPS3000-24 power supply was selected, meeting electrical requirements. The TPS series also has a built-in ORing FET to block voltage spikes caused by a motor, plus voltage and current programming and a PMBus communication interface.
