Laser diode technology is used in many cosmetic procedures. Laser diode lipolysis is now being marketed as a minimally invasive method of removing excess body tissue. Heat is generated by radio frequencies (RF) applied via a fibre-optic cable. The energy levels are adjusted according to the body area and the amount of tissue to be removed.

With a power requirement of 1500W, a manufacturer of laser diode lipolysis equipment approached TDK-Lambda for a medical power supply for their new project. The 1500W rated RWS1500B-24/MER power supply was suggested, which fully met their needs. In addition to IEC 60601-1 certification, the product has a remote on/off function to inhibit the laser diode and a seven-year warranty for a low cost of ownership.
