2,400W programmable power supplies used in automotive electric motor testing

Posted by Martin on July 30, 2020

Vehicles are relying less on hydraulic systems and more on electric motors for power steering and braking. Motor drives can be easily controlled using software, and are more suitable for autonomous transportation applications.

These motors and their drives require rigorous and lengthy testing both in the development and production stages. Engineers, familiar with the TDK-Lambda Genesys™ series of programmable power supplies, chose the 0 to 20V output GEN20-120-1P230 model for an ATE system to test automotive electric motors. Capable of delivering 2.4kW, the 1U high model operates from a single phase 230Vac input. The power supply can be remotely programmed to complete a full test routine using the standard RS-232/485 interface.
