Freeze-drying, or lyophilisation, is used to preserve many products including medicines, fruits and even herbs. One of the most well-known applications is instant coffee, which can be stored for long periods of time without the need for refrigeration. Using a deep vacuum during the process allows the removal of water vapour and oxygen.

A leading manufacturer of vacuum pumps was considering replacing the power supply in one of its designs. With a large installed base of pumps already in the market, a form, fit and function alternative was needed.

Contacting TDK-Lambda for a proposal, the local salesperson offered the services of the Power+ Solutions modified standard product team. The U-channel version of the CUS150M, measuring just 64 x 116mm, was chosen as the base power supply, along with an adapter board and wiring harness.
