AdvancedTCA system relies on HFE 2500W redundant hot-swap power supplies

Posted by Martin on October 15, 2019

The Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA or ATCA) is an open source, multiple vendor architecture for carrier grade communication equipment. Carrier grade systems and software are rigorously tested to ensure a level of uptime (system availability) that is higher than normal.

A manufacturer of ATCA, known for their time-to-market development speed, asked TDK-Lambda for a solution to their redundant power supply requirement. The HFE2500-48/S was suggested, with each unit offering 48V at 2500W and an I2C communications bus, along with the HFE 1U high rack which can hold up to four units. TDK-Lambda’s reputation for quality was well known to the customer, but the final decision driver was availability.  This was met utilising the local factory and warehouse inventory.
