Class II configurable power supplies used for LED phototherapy skin treatment

XMS500
Posted by Dulcie on July 27, 2018

Phototherapy, or heliotherapy, is the treatment of skin disorders using light. Systems are now using LEDs and target the skin with precise light wavelengths from red, blue and near-infrared LED sources that control the depth of the skin treatment. Output power is also adjusted to reach the target cells.

Looking for a 24V output Class II (no earth ground connection) medical power supply that had very low audible noise, designers of a new LED phototherapy machine chose TDK-Lambda’s XMS500 configurable medical power supplies. Options selected were the remote on/off and a 12V 1A standby voltage, so that the main 24V output powering the LEDs could be disabled and power still be supplied to keep the system processors operational.
