Diode Pumped Solid State Lasers (DPSSL) offer high quality beams at high power levels. With the ability to pulse width modulate the output down to a few femtoseconds (one millionth of a nanosecond), these lasers are ideal for scribing, marking, cutting and drilling a variety of materials from glass to gold.

One producer of diode laser systems was tasked with developing a compact enclosure containing the laser, control boards and power supply to eliminate external wiring harnesses. The TDK-Lambda RFE1000-48 was offered by the local support team due to its low 41mm height and 305 mm length. Having terminals rather than busbars for the output wiring gave flexibility to the mechanical engineers.
