Conduction/convection cooled power supplies selected for laser cutting machinery
The use of lasers to cut a variety of materials is now well established in the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine industry. Laser diode lifetimes are now estimated at 100,000 hours and can cut materials at speeds that is now measured in metres per second.
To avoid contaminants being drawn in by fan cooled power supplies, a manufacturer of laser cutting machines wanted a conduction or convection cooled solution. TDK-Lambda’s sales team offered the CPFE1000FI 48V model, which derives its cooling through the use of a cold plate. The CPFE uses the popular PFE AC-DC power module and delivers an off-the-shelf product, complete with safety certifications and an I2C communications interface.
