In medical operating theatres and emergency wards equipment, such as X-Ray machines, are suspended from the ceiling to keep the floor area as free as possible from obstruction. For the braking system, the equipment manufacturer required a power supply that provided very good stability under high inductive variable load conditions, peak power capability and, to ensure noise levels are kept to a minimum, no fan. They chose the TDK-Lambda CFE400M power supply, which is rated at 300W when convection cooled and has a 450W peak power for up to 10 seconds.
