A reverse vending machine automates the recovery and recycling of used (empty) glass, plastic and aluminium drinks containers and provides a refund to the customer – the reverse of the typical vending machine. In most cases, they are used in countries that levy deposits on drinks containers, such as beer bottles. These machines are usually ‘always on’ and located in remote sites – so reliability, low stand-by power consumption and high efficiency are key specifications. For these reasons, one manufacturer is using the TDK-Lambda GWS250 series in its machines, which were backed up by the high-level technical support provided during the design phase of the project.
