Apprenticeships – How they can work for you
These days, there’s no guarantee of a job never mind a job for life. At TDK-Lambda UK, we are firm believers in the value of apprenticeships and training, providing opportunities to employees who might otherwise miss out on career progression.
More young people need to know about the potential of vocational routes like Apprenticeships; to illustrate how, please read Daniel Lawson’s story:-
Daniel joined TDK-Lambda ten years ago as an Assembly Operator and, after his first year, was offered a City & Guilds Apprenticeship through our training partner Group Training and Development (GTD). He completed his Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering with TDK-Lambda UK in 2007 and since then has received several promotions and gained a degree. He is now a Design Engineer at TDK-Lambda.
“I have really enjoyed studying over the years,” says Daniel, “but there is no doubt that it has been challenging, especially finding the time to work full-time and study.”
Daniel is a terrific example of just how far up the ladder a person, with drive and determination, can climb. Recently he won the South West region City & Guilds Apprentice Champion of the Year category in the 2012 National Apprenticeship Awards.
Daniel now proceeds through to the National judging stage and needs your vote – it’s easy to do, just visit: www.apprenticeships.org.uk. The initial public vote runs until 9.00 am on 29th October.
The national award winner will be revealed during the opening ceremony of the UK’s largest national skills and careers event, WorldSkills UK – The Skills Show, at the NEC in Birmingham on 14 November.
