Many have asked me why this is \u2013 here\u2019s a quick explanation\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/cfe\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uk.tdk-lambda.com\/uk\/files\/2012\/01\/CFE400M-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"CFE400M digitally-controlled medical power supply \" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tdklambdablog.wpenginepowered.com\/uk\/files\/2012\/01\/CFE400M-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tdklambdablog.wpenginepowered.com\/uk\/files\/2012\/01\/CFE400M.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"CFE400M more information\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/cfe\" target=\"_blank\">CFE400M<\/a>, which is suitable for Type B applications, is a convection cooled power supply housed in a U chassis \u2013 which is used as a heatsink to help dissipate heat. It has a 300W continuous rating from 0 to 40\u00b0C, while still meeting the ErP requirements of 0.5W standby power and reaching Climate Savers Gold ranking for efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Our design team here in Ilfracombe have optimised the thermal performance of the unit further by using simple physics  It is the emissivity value of the chassis that makes the difference i.e. how much heat radiation you get off the metal work\u2026 shiny aluminium has an emissivity value of about 0.1, whereas a black finish has an emissivity value of about 0.9.<\/p>\n<p>Our design team calculated that a black finish achieves 4- 5degC better thermal performance than bare aluminium. So we added a black finish on the convection cooled <a title=\"CFE400M more information\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/cfe\" target=\"_blank\">CFE400M<\/a> chassis to increase the amount of heat it could dissipate through radiation \u2013 of course, the heat dissipated by convection remains the same so in total more heat is dissipated . <\/p>\n<p>This in turn improves the life of critical components within the unit and hence the reliability of the power supply \u2013 the <a title=\"CFE400M more information\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/cfe\" target=\"_blank\">CFE400M<\/a> comes with a 5-year warranty.<\/p>\n<p>As with many convection cooled power supplies, the <a title=\"CFE400M more information\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emea.lambda.tdk.com\/uk\/cfe\" target=\"_blank\">CFE400M<\/a> can alternatively be blown with customer air or purchased with a premounted fan.
