On a regular or continuous basis, ships are\ndegaussed to remove unwanted magnetism that has built up due to the earth\u2019s\nmagnetic field and on-board machinery. One way to avoid the magnetic field\ndisrupting on-board navigation systems is to install electromagnetic coils, and\ncontrol the amount of current passing through the coils to offset the hull\u2019s\nmagnetic field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amount of power and current needed varies by the size of the ship. Requiring a broad range of models, a manufacturer of degaussing equipment contacted TDK-Lambda regarding their Genesys™ programmable power supplies<\/a>.  Multiple part numbers ranging from 60 to 600V are now being used in ships around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
